This program is an exciting addition at Rapidan River Kayak Company. WATR is a multi-day event providing river kayaking experiences to develop skills and confidence, to be taught by women, for women. From arrival on Friday evening until departure on Sunday, the weekend will be filled with comradery and mutual support of like-minded women as we undertake activities to promote personal empowerment. WATR is about building “confidence through competence”.
In addition to developing kayaking skills, we will evaluate the ecological health of the Rapidan River by performing water quality analysis and visual assessment, and discuss the history of the river and the environmental challenges that it faces today.
The WATR program will be offered on selected weekends during the summer season, or you may request special scheduling to accommodate your own group. Enrollment is limited to 8 participants per session.
Tent camping space and meals are available on our grounds or, if you prefer, we can recommend one of our local Inns. Please contact us for current schedule and pricing.
We invite school, scout, and civic groups to join us in using the river as a classroom. Learning about the river is much more meaningful when it is an experience, and not just a lesson! Contact us about planning a river study with your group.>
We partner with the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department to offer their "Explore Kayaking" program, a beginning kayak clinic for children ages 10 and up. Students learn water safety, basic strokes, river feature identification, and kayak techniques for moving water while they have an exciting kayaking experience on the river. To sign up, please call Orange County Parks and Recreation (540) 672-5435.
